Travel in London

Getting Around

London's extensive bus and underground network makes getting around the capital easy, just arm yourself with a trusty map which are widely available and Travel. Public transport runs from about 0630 to 2400 with Nightbus services operating throughout the night.
London Transport 24 hour information line 020 7222 1234.

National Rail
You can book rail tickets for travel all around the UK at

Taxis
London's distinctive black cabs can be hailed in the street. Fares are metered, the driver is obliged to take you if the journey is less than six miles (or less than 20 miles from Heathrow Airport).

Car Rental

Hiring a car is easy, often you can book in advance with most of the international operators (eg. Avis, Hertz, Alamo) or book them at major airports and train stations. However, Car Parking in Central London is expensive so only hire if you plan to explore the outskirts of London or further afield.

Remember that the Central London Congestion Charge operates Mon-Fri 7am-6.30pm. A £5 charge is payable if you drive into the zone during these times. See www.cclondon.com for more details and to pay the charge

Car Parking

On street car parking is very difficult and free parking is very rare, mostly you will have to use meters or pay and display to park your car for maximum periods of 2 hours. Off street car parking is safer but is also expensive. If you need a car consider staying out side the Centre of Town.
